IRA Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #2

Reading Eggspress (https://readingeggspress.com/about/why-it-works/) is not a free website.  You have to choose either the six months ($49.95) or twelve months ($59.00) subscription. It may be a bit pricey but it is well worth the investment towards your child’s education.
The progress I have made was to sign up for a two-week trial basis.  There is a pre-test that is given to your child so that they start at a level that is suitable for them.  It consists of many questions in areas such as identifying letters, letter sounds, sentences, etc.  Reading Eggspress is categorized by age groups such as: 3-4 years, 5 years, 6-7 years, and 7-13 years.

There are so many available self-paced learning activities that your child could learn from. Some of these lessons are phonics, letter identification, spelling, vocabulary, sight words, and other essential reading skills. There are also interactive reading activities, literacy games, and online children’s books. Children love earning golden eggs along with other rewards as they do the learning activities.  I was in the letters and sounds segment and if you make a mistake they allow you to retry your mistakes. I thought that was a great feature to learn from your mistakes and to be given a second chance.  The same goes for when you are in the content words, and sight words section they also give you a retry to correct any mistakes. After you complete each activity it allows you to play a game in which you are driving a car on a race-track with obstacles to avoid and stars to collect.  The games are great practice for hand and eye coordination. I can see how this could be the incentive that gets the children to complete the lesson activities.
