IRA Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website # 1
       
        Storyline Online is a program of SAG-AFTRA Foundation. The foundation is a nonprofit organization that relies entirely on gifts, grants and donations to fund Storyline Online and produce all of its videos. The website’s focus is on helping advance children’s literacy to improve lives. 

        Actors who have read story books to date include Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Lily Tomin, Kevin Costner, Annette Bening, James Earl Jones, and Betty White just to name a few. Storyline Online is used by teachers, students, parents, and caregivers throughout the world. It is an accommodating website that offers supplemental activities for educators. The goal of Storyline Online is to strengthen comprehension and oral and written skills.

       Students can watch and follow along with the read aloud story. It’s advantageous for teachers; as it supports in between lessons providing brain breaks. It can also be used to assist teachers as they set-up to transition to the next lesson or subject.

       Disadvantages of the Storyline Online is the internet accessibility. At schools the website will be restricted or may have pop-up blockers preventing them from being viewed. Students may not be familiar with celebrities.

       Storyline Online is a great effective literacy website that I recommend using to build fluency and comprehension. It is a tool that would be most beneficial for children in grades K-5. The website can be curtailed to any interdisciplinary teaching.
