IRA Newsletter Project: Effective
Literacy Website #2
Reading Websites
There
are resources for teaching children how to read that are found on the internet.
Reading has what we need online include: curriculum for teachers and tips for
parents and they are all found in this site. This reading website is wonder way
to supplement other reading instruction. Recent research in literacy has found
that most effective literacy programs, including reading websites, cover five
key areas of literacy instruction:
·
Phonemic
awareness
·
Phonics
·
Fluency
·
Vocabulary
·
Text
comprehension
The
ABC Reading Eggs program uses different phonemic awareness activities that help
young readers in rhymes, and listening skills. The Reading Eggs program frames
the teaching of phonemic awareness skills in a literacy program that sets a
goal for children reading real books for meaning.
Also,
ABC Reading Eggs uses a number of activities and lessons that introduce
students to the sounds and letters that they make in a structured sequence. The
goal of Reading Eggs is to have kids read real books.
However,
ABC Reading Eggs Use a variety of strategies to improve reading fluency. This
program models fluency in reading all books, encourages the reading of a text,
and uses a number of activities that increase reading comprehension. Most of
the Reading Eggs activities develop readers’ speed in reading re-call of an
increasing bang of high-frequency sight words.
As
a result, the program (ABC Reading Eggs) provides focused literacy skill
lessons in the skills bank area of the program. The program’s area covers the
three core skills of spelling, grammar and vocabulary.
Furthermore,
the program uses software that uses the comprehension strategies listed to help
kids develop and have access to reading comprehension. Children are provided
with supplement instruction they receive in school and at home. It covers all
the key areas of instruction in its lessons, so kids can be able to be fluent
in reading and understand what they read.
“My child LOVES Reading Eggs! This
program has been exactly what I’ve been looking for. We tried two other popular
reading programs and while they were fun, they just didn’t translate to my
child becoming a reader. He’s a reluctant reader, capable but frustrates
easily. With Reading Eggs I have never witnessed an ounce of frustration, just
watched my son having fun. And even better—I’ve watched him start to read in
such a natural progression—that is a beautiful thing to watch. Thank you
Reading Eggs!” C. Bryant
