Literacy Website #2: Seussville

Seussville (http://www.seussville.com) is the official website of Dr. Seuss and his classic children’s books. Based on Dr. Seuss’ philosophy that reading should be fun and exciting for children, Random House Children’s Books and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. bring Dr. Seuss’ world of discovery, imagination, and creativity through this website. Users can explore and access Seussville for free. Children can play and learn with Dr. Seuss’ whimsical stories and characters. Dr. Seuss’ classics such as Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham, come to life through this interactive online learning environment. Seussville’s animated characters and fun layout will capture the attention of children to enhance their reading experiences.
One reason Seussville is a great literacy resource is that the entire website design appeals to children. On the homepage, young users can enjoy the animation, music, and interactive sounds. They can explore the places of Dr. Seuss’ books such as Whoville and the Jungle of Nool. They can meet and learn more about familiar characters and the books they are featured in. Also, on Seussville children can easily access many of the online games and print activities that feature their favorite Dr. Seuss characters and stories. Other features on Seussville that children can have fun exploring are the Dr. Seuss Author page and the video clips of classic Dr. Seuss tales.
Moreover, Seussville also makes a great literacy resource for educators and parents. On the educator page, teachers can find classroom resources such as lesson plans, printables, activities, and news about special events and annual celebrations. The website also offers an educator timeline and tips for teachers on how they can incorporate Dr. Seuss books into their lessons throughout the school year. Again, these resources are completely free and can be easily adapted into many lessons.
On the parent page, Seussville offers various tools and resources to support reading and learning with their child. Parents can access activities, crafts, and printables that they can do with their child after reading a favorite Dr. Seuss book. The parent page also features fun food recipes for families to make together. Lastly, the Seussville parent page features resources where parents can learn more about tips for reading with their child and some literacy strategies they can do at home.
In all, Seussville is an awesome literacy resource for educators, parents, and children. I would recommend this website because it promotes a fun and interactive learning environment with classic children’s books. Seussville’s interactive activities, games, and resources can help educators and parents make learning meaningful and enrich children’s reading experience with Dr. Seuss books.
