ReadWriteThink

ReadWriteThink (http://www.readwritethink.org ) is a website that promotes Literacy in the classroom and at home as a variety of resources are tailored towards classroom teachers, parents, after school professionals, and educators in general. ReadWriteThink was put together by a diverse group of educators who share a passion for literacy. The contents of this site are reviewed by literacy experts who are knowledgeable in the best literacy practices.
The mission of ReadWriteThink is to provide educators, parents, and afterschool professionals with the access to the highest quality practices in reading and language arts instruction with some of the best free materials. In addition, ReadWriteThink is partnered with the International Literacy Association and the National Council of Teachers of English.
The contents of the page are organized by tabs that make finding resources and materials easy. One could even explore the resources available by grade level. In addition to the tabs and subtabs, resources are organized and narrowed down by what is being featured and the most popular.  The website features lesson plans, student interactives, and calendar activities in which an assigned activity is set for every single day of the month. I would recommend however that a flash player be installed before being able to use the student interactives.
ReadWriteThink provides great articles, discussions, and videos on various professional development resources such as reading in content areas, teaching with technology, teaching writing, promoting fluency and comprehension, and differentiating instruction to name a few. A downside to the journal articles listed is that one would have to be a subscriber at a fee in order to read the full article.
ReadWriteThink features videos that provide great visual and demonstrations on how to implement specific strategies such as write around the room, read aloud, creating a close reading, choosing complex text, etc.
ReadWriteThink serves as a great literacy website. It definitely carries out its mission by providing literacy resources for all educators at no cost. The website is easy to navigate and use. The content of this website is also well organized with resources organized by grade level. Lastly, it offers educators with professional development resources in which they can access at any time and in the comfort of their home or classroom.
