Hooked on Phonics (https://online.hookedonphonics.com/) is an award-winning, pre-k through second grade reading program that was designed by experts to help young learners become strong, confident readers. This program has been used by more than 5 million parents and teachers. Although Hooked on Phonics is not free, you can easily become a member by subscribing and choosing your preferred payment plan, whether it will be monthly, yearly, or a lifetime plan. Once you become a member, you have access to interactive games, engaging stories, and videos that teach print concepts, phonological awareness, and sight words.
With Hooked on Phonics, children have fun learning. There are interactive games that engage children in learning important phonics skills by popping balloons, growing flowers, launching rocket ships, and so much more. With more than 70 stories, children are able to practice their reading and progress with the lessons. Musical videos are also provided to get children excited about reading and learning. Some of these videos can be found on YouTube for those who have not members.
The Hooked on Phonics reading program also has features that parents and children will love. Parents are able track their child’s progress throughout the entire program and kids can clearly view their reading progression. This allows them to see all their accomplishments in the program. A reward system is another great feature that is provided. As children learn more lessons, they earn more achievements, and they become better readers. The progress tracking and reward system lets the children become more involved and willing to learn how to read.
Hooked on Phonics is also beneficial for teachers. It is aligned with the Common Core State Standards to build foundational reading skills starting in kindergarten. It also allows its members to create multiple users. Lessons, progress tracking, and rewards can all be individually tracked for teachers to view and share with parents. With this helpful feature, teachers can easily use the results to create meaningful lessons in the regular classroom.
I would recommend using Hooked on Phonics to motivate and build young readers. It engages the children in learning the foundational reading skills such as concepts of print, phonological awareness, letter-sound correspondence, and high-frequency word recognition through games, videos, and stories that they would love. Throughout the entire program, children learn, practice, read, and celebrate their success before moving on to the next lesson. In addition, members can sync and access the program on various mobile devices with or without internet connection. This makes learning continuous, and it can be done at any time or place.
