Seussville (http://www.seussville.com/) is a free interactive website which is based on Dr. Seuss’s creative books and characters. Many of Dr. Seuss’s classic books such The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and Oh, the Places you’ll go! are all featured in the interactive games and activities, videos, and books. Dr. Seuss believed that books and learning to read should be fun and exciting for children. Seussville promotes the spirit of fun, imagination, and creativity. The stories come to life as the children explore and enrich their reading experiences.
Seussville is funded through Random House Children’s Books and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. Its main goal for the website is to protect the integrity of the Dr. Seuss books. Part of the website includes an author page, which allows readers to learn more about Dr. Seuss. They may learn about his life, books, and his art. There are also pictures of the author growing up and his adventures. They may learn fun facts about him as they browse through the page. There are sketches from his stories and also characters that he brought to life.
Seussville is filled with many interactive games, characters, and music. As readers browse through the homepage, they will be amazed by the interactive animations from the characters and environment. It takes readers to any part of Seussville, from Whoville, Jungle of Nool, Mulbery St. and McElligot’s. Visitors can simply click on any of the characters or items on the page which will led them to a new reading adventure. They may watch a variety of videos or play multiple games and activities. Seussville highlights all of Dr. Seuss’s books. If children are interested in any of the books, they may purchase the book itself or its audio, with the help of a parent. The books are not free, but they come at a low cost. When browsing through the videos, there are many clips to choose from. They are all scenes from Dr. Seuss’s stories for the children to appreciate.
Seussville provides a page for educators and parents. Educators are provided with numerous Dr. Seuss resources to use in the classroom. There are lesson plans, printables and activities, and The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library. It also includes events, programs, and newsletters in order for schools to be aware of special events and celebrations throughout the school year. The parent’s page also provides resources for parents to do with their child such as activities, crafts, recipes, and more printables. Each resource promotes building their reading skills and quality time with their child.
Overall, I found this website to be a great resource to promote reading. It is quite appealing and the website is designed for children of all ages. It is easy to navigate, but may take time loading from one area to another on the website. The children will learn to read and explore with Dr. Seuss through all his fun activities.
