IRA Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website # 4

The literacy shed website https://www.literacyshed.com is utilized by over one hundred and fifty countries around the world. The
curator Rob Smith was a primary teacher aimed to support teaching by providing high quality resources that can be used as a stand-
alone lesson, supplement literacy units currently being explored, or to form the basis of a literacy unit. The great technological tool
offers the use of animation to inspire writing.

Literacy Shed was created as an idea that is uses short clips and videos for guided reading. The free resources are available for educators to locate short films, animations which can be used to incorporate in lessons. The resources are used for Key Stage readers 1, 2, and 3, although, some content can also be used for upper age group individuals. It is highly recommended that educators view the films prior to being displayed for the appropriate age/viewer audience. There are categorized links such as mystery shed, anti-bullying shed, the Christmas shed just to name a few with a variation of activities, follow-up tasks and teaching ideas to discuss and write about.

The Literacy Shed is a phenomenal resource that educators can use to incorporate technology into their classrooms. It provides up to date state of the art visual stimulation to motivate student to express themselves and capture their imaginations. Students will be engaged in the content being learned building on their background knowledge, encouraging students to use their critical thinking skills to build on their comprehension and writing skills.
