IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #5
The
Effective literacy website I selected is ABCya!
This site provides free educational games that are geared for grade
levels K-5. The games are organized by
grade levels and by different categories such as letters, numbers, holiday
games, and more. The arcade like games are played by using a cursor. The games come with self- explanatory
instructions. Parents may have to help
their child read the brief instructions.
The games are very colorful, and some may come with voice
directions. It is a fun way to learn
literacy and math. It also is great for
hand and eye coordination as they are playing skill games.
You can
find the common core state standards that apply to any game you play by
clicking the common core standards box.
It will display the games and when you click on the game it will display
the CCSS. There is also a news section
in which ABCya! is featured in Parents, Scholastic, USA Today, The New York
Times, and many other organizations. You
can read reviews from educators and parents.
Some of the comments displayed were, “Excellent learning website,” and
“One of the best website to use at home with your child.”
Students
will have lots of fun playing and learning with the many interactive games
available to choose from. Educators will
find these games engaging, fun, and instructive.
