IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #7
The
wonderful world of Dr. Seuss, filled with bouncing fun of colorful animations
of characters, videos, and games. The Dr. Seuss website, http://www.seussville.com, takes users
through the literacy worlds of Whoville, Jungle of Nool, Mulberry Street, and
McElligot’s. In addition, the site is filled with activities for children,
parents, and educators based on the stories from Dr. Seuss.
Theodor
Seuss Geisel, “Dr. Seuss”, answered the calling of writing books for children
of all ages to enjoy reading. He wrote 45 Dr. Seuss books and the site helps
categorize the books by age, holiday, and purpose. Not only do the books enrich
learning, they encourage discussions of conservation, racism, greed, perseverance,
and self-discovery. The site helps educators by offering a plethora of resources
to use in the classroom and a timeline when to use each resource. Educators
have access to lesson plans, pintables, and activities of their favorite books.
The best part, these resources are absolutely FREE!
For
parents, the site provides newsletters, crafts and activities with full
instructions of bringing fun into the home. The newsletters help parents with
tips of engaging their children in reading at home. After reading the stories
of adventures in Seussville, parents will be able to create some fun with the
help of crafts and activities to do with their children. On activity children
might like, a photo booth, children can be creative with washable markers to
illustrate their very own backdrop, props, and words/phrases! Have books on
hand for references.
For
children, this site is safe for any child to explore and play on the
interactive games. Children are able to click on the characters of their
favorite books and watch them come alive. With the colorful animations, the
site allows children to enhance their understanding of the characters depicted
in their favorite books. If children are able to sign up with adult assistance,
they are able to create their own Who; a character of Seussville.
The site is a
place for users of all ages to play and learn through the interactive games,
activities, and books that enrich the users learning experiences. Hop on over
to http://www.seussville.com to visit
the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss! Become a Who citizen and start your
adventures!
