Internet Tools - Christina Sablan Toves

If you are searching for a great resource to create presentations, collaborate with others, and share what you have created, Prezi is the website for you! After exploring the website, I found many additions that were not included a few years ago. Prezi offers a new version called Prezi Next. The classic version is still included, however if you would like to take your presentations to the next level, you will love this new feature. In Prezi Next, you are able to share your presentation with other Prezi users. The website enables the users to include up to ten collaborators for each presentation. The collaborators are able to view, edit, comment, and present the presentations shared with them. As the original creator, you are able to choose what you give your collaborators access to do. You may also monitor the activity of the collaborators included in the website. Another great feature included is the ability to view the analytics of your presentation. You may view which parts of your presentation may have been weak by the completion rates of the viewers, helping to improve your presentations.  It also provides a breakdown of who viewed the presentation and how long they were viewing it.
This website is a great tool to use in the classroom. Many students are visual learners and Prezi offers great animations and graphics that catch the eye of children and adults! The website also enables the user to choose the particular section they would like to focus on. This will help students who have questions on a topic or need additional time to process a section of the presentation. The collaborator feature is also a great tool to use while working with other teachers within your grade level or in the same content area. Sharing the presentations and improving on it can help ensure the information given to the students are consistent and valid. The one con I found on the website is the loading time. Like many websites that are created and edited on the internet, it may take some time to complete. The internet strength may also play a big factor in the effectiveness of utilizing this tool in the classroom. However, once the presentations are completed, users are able to download and save as a file onto their computers. Overall, I would definitely recommend this website to teachers searching for an effective way to carry out their lessons and collaborate with their grade level or content area teams. Its a fun, innovative, and collaborative way to present skills to students!

SlideShare is a great online resource that provides thousands of ready made files, including powerpoint presentations, PDF’s, documents, and media files. Members are able to upload and share files they have created on the website. The files that are uploaded can be made private for the creator’s view only or public, for other members on SlideShare to view.
The thousands of presentations on SlideShare can help educators as they search for resources to use in the classroom. Students respond well to powerpoint presentations because of the visuals it provides. Creating presentations can be time consuming for teachers and with the many other daily tasks, it can be difficult to complete a presentation for all the skills being covered. SlideShare can help alleviate the time spent on creating the presentations by providing ready made presentations to share with students. SlideShare can also help teachers who may need refreshers on particular skills by reviewing slides created by other teachers with the information on the upcoming skill they will be teaching.
Teachers can also share presentations with their students through SlideShare. One great thing about this website is the ability to view the presentations without creating an account. This is very useful in a classroom setting where setting up usernames and password can take a lot of time. This website is also a great resource for students to share presentations they have created with their teacher and classmates. Overall, this simple website can make a huge difference in the classroom. From using the ready made presentations to sharing files that you created, it is a great resource to help students obtain the skills they need to succeed!
Weebly for Education is a great tool for educators who would like to create an online platform to use for their classroom. Educators are able to create websites and add students, giving them access to the website. One of the great features on this site is the teacher can personalize usernames and passwords for each student. Creating simple usernames and passwords can help young students log onto the website independently with little to no help from the teacher. The log in page is also very clean and simple, which is critical for new online learners. Teachers are also able to create online assignments for students to complete. The one con about the assignment feature on Weebly is students must upload a file. One recommendation I would have for Weebly is to allow for students to post directly on the website. This will be a quicker and more efficient way to gather assignments for students. It will also be easier for younger students who may not know how to upload files. Another feature included on Weebly for Educators is the ability to password protect specific pages on the website. This is a great feature for teachers who do not want students to have access to a page until a later date or for other purposes. The websites simple drag and drop feature also makes it very easy for students and teachers to manipulate the website.
In addition to teachers creating websites, Weebly for Education is also useful for students to create e-portfolios and their own Weebly websites. The teacher can monitor the websites the students create, making it a safe online learning environment.  The teacher can also disable the students ability to edit sites or delete the sites the student created. When students edit their Weebly page, it is very similar to the editing page on the main website. This may take younger students a lot of time to create, however it is a great resource for older students who are more experienced with uploading, dragging, dropping, and editing on the computer.
Overall, I would recommend this website to educators who would like to expand their classroom through the internet. The site can help educators organize online resources for students to have access to. It is also a great way to incorporate technology into lessons by having students create their own websites, navigate through the classroom sites, or create an e-portfolio of their own.
