Self-Reflection
Dr. M. Rivera
Every
goal has its challenges, however without challenges then what is the point in
setting the goal. This course taught me that no matter what, if I set my mind
on completing then I’m already half way done. I have learned so much in this
short span of time. This course challenged me to move out of my comfort zone in
creating a learning environment online and exploring resources to bring into my
classroom. Finding the great importance of bringing technology into the
classroom because the in world today, technology is ever changing; therefore,
so should we.
As
mentioned before, before taking this course, I have done a fair amount of time
browsing the Internet to find supplemental resources and tools for my classroom.
I was successful in finding resources and tools to download and print. I was
consumed with what I can make for my students due to their disabilities and
their fascination of tactile material. I did not consider that maybe my
students might prefer technology. I also automatically dismissed websites that
are beneficial because of the limited computers available at my school. Additionally,
I was secretly afraid that particular students would have a meltdown and
destroy the hardware. The reasons were that I was not comfortable with using
technology in my lessons.
After
taking this course, I feel more confident in bringing technology into my
lessons. I’ve recently had a discussion with my students on their thoughts of
using the computer to meet their goals. I received mixed feelings however,
after some discussion all my students expressed that they’d love to try! About
half of my students do not have access to a computer or tablet at home. This
issue should not stop students from learning how to use a computer or tablet.
The students are being exposed to building robots and they enjoy this activity.
I hope I can assist my students to be more technology fluent.
Overall,
I have learned a great deal of internet resources and tools to enrich my
lessons in the classroom. I was able to set up a Course Management System that
I plan to use later this school year on sentence building. Through writing
reviews on literacy websites, I was able to explore different tools to assist
in the enrichment of my student’s interests in literature. The websites I
reviewed could be used for students of all abilities and levels. Additionally,
I enjoyed reading my peers’ reviews of other sites I have never heard of
before. I am grateful that we have a class blog to refer to in the future.
Furthermore, I enjoyed the constant advice and encouragement from our
professor, Dr. M. Rivera. I will take everything learned these past few weeks
and apply within my teaching career.
