IRA Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website # 6

ABCya’s http://www.abcya.com is a free award-winning educational website with an assortment of computer games and apps for students in grades Pre-K to 5. There are five categories to choose from: letters, numbers, holidays, strategy and skills. The website is an engaging and stimulating tool that is easy to use in the classroom or at home. Resourceful content that supports and strengthens Math, Reading and Writing. Games have posted Common Core State Standard Alignments, which are useful references.

The games on ABCya are attractive and colorful, created and approved by certified teachers. An interactive way which helps children learn. The website incorporate lessons posted by grade levels such as math, reading, language arts, and basic computer skills. ABCya is a reinforcement tool used to practice skill and content that was taught. Also, it can be used as an anticipatory set to introduce a lesson.

I would highly recommend educators to use the ABCya website to teach literacy. ABCya is a great resource featured in many reviews and articles in newspapers by: Apple, The New York Times, Disney Family Fun Magazine and Fox News. The website is often used to enhance skill reinforcement providing fun activities and entertainment. ABCya is a neat way to infuse and incorporate technology in the classroom. Each grade level has a specific category and within each grade level are categories with specific topics.
