Scholastics (http://www.scholastic.com/home/) is a multimedia resource for teachers, parents, students, administrators, and librarians. Its mission is to encourage the intellectual and personal growth of all children beginning with literacy.  Scholastics was founded in 1920 as a single classroom magazine and has expanded to vast number of schools and homes worldwide in assisting children across the globe. Educators should take advantage of each webpage as it offers many interesting elements.
The Scholastics webpage for teachers have multiple resources and information to use in the classroom.  The resources available for teachers are lesson plans, unit plans, discussion guides, extension activities, and other teaching activities. They also provide book suggestions for the lessons if needed and they come at a reasonable price. Teachers are able to browse through the teaching resources or place book club orders for their students. Scholastics is available to teachers teaching grades pre-k to 8th grade.
Scholastic’s webpage for parents assist in guiding their child to become better readers and learners. It provides a reading resources for children ages 0 to 13. It also gives suggestion or recommendations about the type of books which will suit the child, depending on their interest. The parent’s page also has videos, quizzes, activities, and printables for children to explore and learn. Scholastics invites parents to sign up for their parent newsletter if they are interested in receiving reading advice, children’s activities, and more.
Scholastic’s webpage for kids includes many fun and entertaining features for children to explore. It has books, games, videos, and a community blog. When browsing through the books, they may choose from genres to help narrow their options, such as adventure and science fiction, fantasy, funny, graphic novels, historical, mystery and horror, nonfiction, and real life. If the reader has chosen a book of interest, he or she may learn more about the book’s author, suitable age, and summary in order to make a decision to buy the book. There are many games and quizzes for children as well. The website provides a short clip summarizing the games and they can be played on any mobile device. The videos and community blogs are based on stories and discussion from popular books for children.
Scholastic’s webpage for administrators offer programs which can be used in the classrooms. There are three different types of programs which are the Guided Reading Program for grades K-6, the Comprehension Clubs for grades for grades K-8, and the Paperbacks and Collections for grades K -12. They each offer ways to engage students in different types of books so they can help build their literacy skills. It also encourages family and community engagement. Lastly, the librarian’s webpage offers a librarian network which promotes new books and videos for students.
Overall, this website is very appealing to educators with all the features their website has to offer. Educators should take advantage of all the books and lesson plan with activities for their students. It could provide support for those who are struggling readers or have little to no interest in reading with their wide variety of books and games. I recommend Scholastics!
